Queen City Police Foundation to Honor Senator Leahy
Queen City Police Foundation Benefit Breakfast
Thursday, June 3, 2010 8:00 am - 9:30 am Hilton Hotel ~ Burlington, Vermont
Burlington, VT – The Queen City Police Foundation (QCPF) will honor Senator Leahy for his leadership and support of law enforcement and youth services at a breakfast on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Hilton.
Senator Leahy, a former Vermont prosecutor, has championed programs for law enforcement and youth services to promote the health and safety of our communities. He chaired Senate Judiciary Committee hearings in Rutland, St. Albans and Barre to ensure that people who keep our communities safe have the support needed to meet the challenges they face every day. He authored legislation that has provided officers in Vermont with more than 3,000 new bulletproof vests, and he has secured significant funding for Vermont law enforcement, including nearly $70 million in State Homeland Security grants since 2001. Senator Leahy believes in the importance of investing in Vermont’s youth, and is committed to supporting efforts to make a positive impact in our children’s lives, bringing nearly $10 million in funding to the Boys and Girls Clubs in Vermont, now operating in more than 20 locations.
Queen City Police Foundation Board Chair, Cindy Delaney said "The Foundation’s newest initiative to provide scholarships to Burlington kids wanting to choose a safe and healthy path coincides perfectly with honoring Senator Leahy for this prestigious award. His efforts on behalf of law enforcement and youth embody what we are trying to accomplish in the coming year."
