History
A RICH TRADITION ADAPTING TO EVER INCREASING DEMANDS
Since 1865, the Burlington Police Department has been the sentinel of Burlington's public safety. In that long and exemplary tradition, the department has continued to strive to reach new milestones in skill and service. As Burlington grows, so grows the demand for resources and equipment to keep pace with community policing, new technologies and investigative methods. Increasing budget constraints, however, threaten to leave the department lagging behind Burlington's ever-growing demands.
A FOUNDATION SERVING THE PUBLIC NEED
In 2000, the Queen City Police Foundation was created to address growing community needs. The foundation provides supplemental funding for new technology, equipment and other projects not available from the city's budget. The foundation's support allows the Burlington Police Department to further community relationships while providing equipment and technology that support the department's achievement and community involvement.
CREATING A FOUNDATION TO SERVE THE PUBLIC NEED
The 15 member, volunteer Board of Directors supervises the activities of the Foundation. The Chief of Police serves as a non-voting Ex-officio member. The board creates bylaws and determines the overall allocation of funds controlled by the Police Foundation. The betterment of law enforcement in the community is the guiding function of the Queen City Police Foundation.
